Displacement
This collage series I reverted back to making paper collages, finding myself missing the physical act of cutting and dissecting images in the collaging process. Reflecting on what drives the ideas behind my collages, I realised that it is as much about the play and process of collage as it is the final composition.
Scale was an important element in this series, experimenting with it to explore ideas surrounding taking up space as a woman. These pieces are representative of the female body in relation to its environment, how they take up the space whilst also becoming part of the landscape itself.
Disrupting the landscapes by placing people where they would not normally belong is a subconscious exploration into feelings of being displaced, using my own experiences and sense of self throughout my practice to address these feelings in a purgative way.
